Wireless networks are making our lives easier every day, and Lin Cai sees the deep complexity behind them. The expert in wireless networking is applying herself to one of today’s most interesting innovations: connected autonomous vehicles. Soon, cars with various levels of automation will be connected by massive networks that will need to transmit instantly the speed, location, destination and driving conditions for every vehicle on the road at any given time. The University of Victoria researcher is developing wireless networks that can sort all of that information effortlessly, to avoid accidents, reduce traffic jams, and save energy. Autonomous, connected vehicles will change our society dramatically and Cai is working to make sure we merge smoothly onto the roads of the future.
