We are pleased to announce that we have officially appointed a new Vice-President, Research Partnerships. After a very competitive search and with the advice from an external selection committee, NSERC has selected Dr. Bettina Hamelin to take on this new role. She will officially join the team on September 8, 2015.
Dr. Hamelin has more than 15 years of experience in the biotech and international pharmaceutical industry as well as 10 years of academic experience as a tenured professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Université Laval.
She comes to NSERC from Pfizer, where she held a variety of positions including her current roles as Canadian Medical Lead, Vaccines, and Head, Strategic Research Partnerships, Western Canada. Passionate about R&D, she is known for bringing together unlikely partners to attract and leverage funds from diverse sources. In her most recent roles, she has pioneered novel public-private partnership models, breaking down barriers between federal, provincial and private sector stakeholders.
Dr. Hamelin is well acquainted with the challenges in the discovery-to-innovation spectrum and has pioneered and patented five innovations in medicine and technology. Her early roots as a Bachelor in Chemistry and Biology have led to a BSc Pharmacy, PharmD and EMBA.
We are confident that Dr. Hamelin’s experience in and knowledge of research innovation will help drive key elements of NSERC’s vision for 2020 and will serve our community well.
