Government of Canada invests in research partnerships to create new technologies
Funding will also support training for the next generation of researchers

Our Government knows that when we invest in science and research, we are investing in Canadians. These investments are essential to fostering innovation that will create jobs and drive the economy.
Today, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, announced funding of more than $44 million to recipients of the Strategic Partnership Grants (SPG), supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Funding will go to 75 projects across the country that will connect Canada’s brightest researchers with industry, government and other partners to transform fundamental science into tangible benefits for Canadians.
This investment will enable researchers to come up with new solutions to address challenges in areas such as environment, agriculture, information, communications technologies, natural resources, energy, and advanced manufacturing. By partnering with Canadian companies, researchers will also receive the training and experience they need to be labour market-ready.

- Strategic Partnership Grants focus on collaborations between academia, businesses, government and other organizations, and provides training opportunities for students.
- NSERC conducts evaluations to ensure that these projects remain relevant for Canada. An extensive network of peer reviewers meets annually to select the winners for each competition.
